How To Edit Music And Create Sound FX

Depending on the speed of your connection, this page might take a while to load, there are a lot of pictures on it.

First of all you will need a sound editor, I use Gold Wave it is a free demo verson sound editor. There is no expiry date on the demo. Gold wave was used to create the music and sound fx for Thegr81's Star Wars. Go to goldwave.com and the link to download is on the bottom left. Download then install.

How To Edit Music For Your Coaster

Now that you have installed the program, start it up and open a music mp3 of your choosing for your coaster. Now most songs are over 5 minutes and most coasters over 4 minutes start to get ragged on for being to long. Now you will need to decide how long you want your coaster to be. Listen to the song closely and decide where it would be best to cut it to make it shorter. It is easiest if you don't cut the begining and the end, one or the other. This way you only have 1 end to fade in or out. The lighter area is the section that will be cut, use the left mouse button to go to cut the end and the right mouse button to cut the begining.

So now you've made your cut and its time to fade in or out. If you want to fade out the end of the music that you have chosen, use your right mouse button and click near the end where you want the music to start fading (the area to fade is the lighter part) then click the fade out button at the top. Fade out to 100%

If you want to fade in, use the left mouse key to go select to the begining of the song where you want the fading in to stop.(the lighter area ) Hit the fade in button and fade in from 0%

Now you have the music all done, you should build the track to the music and place all the props in the places you want them to go.

Now you have built your master piece coaster, you will want to add your sound fx.

There are 2 ways you can go about this. You can edit and add sound fx to the props that already make noise, or you can silence the props that make noise and edit your sound fx into your music mp3. Adding the sound to the existing .wav the prop already has is a lot easier than adding sounds to your music mp3. The advantage to adding them to the mp3, is that you can time the sounds perfectly to how you want, the props will not alway work on time when you add the sound fx to them.

How To Add Sound FX To The Existing Prop Sounds.

Go to C:/Program Files/Disney Imagineering/Ultimate Ride/Themes/. Go to the theme of the prop you want to edit, and go into the sound folder. You will need to remember what the sound of prop sounded like to find the correct .wav to edit. Once you have found it open it with gold wave. Open the sound file you wanted to use for the prop. Make sure or edit your replacing .wav to the same amount of time the original .wav. Now close the original .wav, selcet the replacement .wav, and go to save as. save as the original. Now you have edited the sound fx.

How To Add Sound FX To The Music Mp3

Go to C:/Program Files/Disney Imagineering/Ultimate Ride/Themes/. Go to the theme of the prop you want to edit, and go into the sound folder. You will need to remember what the sound of prop sounded like to find the correct .wav to edit. Once you have found it open it with gold wave. Go to Effects on the tool bar up top, and choose volume near the bottom. Select change.

A window will pop that says "change volume", move the little bar down to 0% and hit ok. Now save the file.

Now this is where the hard work part comes in. First off, make a copy of your music, place one in your music folder for UR and one on your desktop. Now go into UR, go to ride your coaster (not edit) then select your music from the music folder. You want to start your ride and time it with a stop watch to where you want to place the sound fx. Once you have established the time where you want to place the sound, exit UR and open the music mp3 from the music folder for UR. Mix the sound you want to add to the mp3, and save the mp3.

Go into Ur again and see if the sound fx lined up with what you wanted. If it did, copy the music from the UR music folder to replace the one on the desktop.
If it didnt work, open the mp3 on your desktop, make your adjustment to where you want the sound to go and save it as the mp3 in the UR music folder.
(not as the desktop version.)

Every time you add a sound fx to your mp3 in the UR music folder and it worked the wat you want it to, copy it to the desk top to replace the one there.

Once you have added all the sounds to your mp3, you can put it in a zip and email it to us to post here at mttm for others to d/l to see with your ride, trust me when i say good music will give good ratings.

Pleas feel free to email us or leave a message on the boards if you are having problems with this, we would be happy to help you out.
