Realistically, the beta time is probably closer to 2 years or 24 months, perhaps sooner.

The lead programmer will be wrapping up the contractual arangements on this with others and than they should go forward from there.

The main thing will be what we didn't get in say a RCT3 for example, or possibly botched TVPC (Thrillville for the PC windows platform) as I simply call it TVPC.

Whether Ken Allen comes back or not at this point is marginal. If Ken does come back, than all the better. Honestly I personally prefer as many RCG (Roller Coaster Games) as possible, but it looks like Atari will be tied up for a bit with the Chris Sawyer lawsuit and so that really leave Thrillville for the moment. I know that Activision was said to be exploring this, but my repeated emails to them have yielded a basic no comment or we are not type reply. So this leave TV for the time being, and on a long shot either CoasterMadness by Ken Allen or RCT3 expansions through Atari, which I don't actually see happening anytime soon.

But Theme Park Builder 3D does have a real and I do mean very long term real chance of jelling, because the founders are talented programmers. With those types of talents who can code, we stand a very real chance of longterm seeing this to fruition.

Marnetmar, I agree, there has been a lot of promises in the near past and they have fallen flat for one reason or another. But this may be different. The issues currently that need to be resolved is a decision on what license to use. Once the devs decide on this, I believe we will see a very rapid progression of code that starts developing for this project. People like Doctor J and Jonwil, Buggy are all long temr friends, and nobody more than me wants to see these guys nail this one down for everybody. At this stage it looks promising and barring anything unforseen, I don't see why we can't watch a 2008 RCG platform emerge. What makes this greater than what exists now, is that we will finally get our own destiny via the community in our hands. Once this becomes the case, we can effectively improve upon this for everyone.

I want to point out that this is not my project or even that of others in the dev group, but rather it belongs to all of us, and that is why to me it is of the utmost importance. Because when you get down to it, we are the ones that make things what they are or are not, and isn't that what a platform is really all about...its great users!!!

My understanding through the grapevine is that Sawyer doesn't want the game to continue any further and doesn't want to sell the rights to the name. Part of that is why Frontiers new "effort" is called Thrillville. This is so they sort of circumvebt any problems in that area.

Yeah rather sad. But I suppose all good things come to an end. My beef with Braben though is the way they are going about having Thrillville be a game oriented more towards visiting the thtmeparks. See, here is my point. RCT3 was popular because it allowed people to create. If Thrillville limits this, than they might well be relegating their new product to a mundane sales item at best. Let's hope these things don't come to pass.

Meanwhile, we are still going to proceed with TPB3D no matters what. To date, as of this posting, Ken Allen's Coastermadness forums remain defunct. I honestly think he has allowed too much time to go by that his momentum is probably gone. Certainly he will never have the same momentum he had when he opened the CM forums earlier.

Yeah, I won't be coding myself as I don't do programming, but there are others who are brilliant and they do, so I think if they get their decision recently on the license type nailed down, we should see this thing jump forward. The sheet on it was already released as mentioned and the potential is there to make this into a community thing.

I think that the 2007 thru the 2009 seasons will see many new great things for the RCG (Roller Coaster Gaming) community to their great benefits.

I'm curious.  Exactly what is your role in this?  If you don't program, are you just in the promotion end?  If so, you're doing a good job as I'm liking what sounds like a pretty good game idea.

Providing aid and comfort to those who are in search of getting it going. Honestly, a cheerleader for now. I have many other things going on so I am just helping these folks get it going, than I'll probably sit back and watch the rest of you having fun.

Honestly, I am so tapped out on the RCT3 dilemma and doing other things like my Valleyhaunts forums I haven't put a lot of recent time into park building. I have 6 new literary projects in the works as time and health permits so for me, its just slowing down now and enjoying watching the community.

But honestly, I would so much enjoy seeing more than one 3D RCG out there and this should provide some competition in the RCG field. And no, I am not a programmer. That was and will stand.

Updated 12-11-2006

Jonwil and other programmers have joined Doctor J's Theme Park Builder 3D programming team. This is very significant, because with the licensing issues hammered out, it means the final strategies for the program are laid out and than the development of code begins. In addition some 3d artists have signed on, but we will need more for making rides and scenery for this free community program. Anyhow its a very big night and many will benefit from this. ETA about 24 months for the base and some expansion packs. Two live chats and we are all having fun brainstorming ideas. At the heart may be several significant items. Building Generator, Importer for it and also custom scenery, Path Manager, Alignment manager and that's where we are just getting started. New docs are being posted weekly at the main site. Here is a link to the transcript of tonights chat live...

http://rcghq.sebar.com/showthread.php?tid=738

For more updates on this please refer to the main site at http://www.tpb3d.com for the program updates as things get posted.

Happy New Years 2007

Well 2007 is here and it will be the year we go through the growing of this project. Many have begun to come around and I must admit this is catching on rather quickly now as the flow of ideas for a great "lag free" 3D Theme Park Builder" is rapidly taking shape. DoctorJ is preceeding rather rapidly with the papers which should soon be finished and others are seeing their future as the destiny in their hands and no longer the realm of the large faceless corporate elites who left the very longtime loyal RCT fan base with no future as a reward for having supported the publishing platform over the years. Nice huh!

More programmers have signed onto the programming end of the game. The future also got brighter as 3D modelers are also onboard, and now all we need is more community participation. This is not a Ken Allen Coaster Madness and its not going away or abandoning the community either. This will be by all of us and 2007 will see rapid advances as we take our future into our hands. What do we know more or less about this. It appears that a licensing such as a GNU type license is in effect. The language of preference appears to be c/c++ the game will have a Building Generator as well as full 3D model scenery importation made very very very easy and the BG plus the imported stuff can interact. True 3D 360 degree alignment is more or less what we are shooting for an off grid type alignment. Here is one every RCT3 fan will love. "NO MORE LAG" in this game. You wanna build Disneyworld and interconnect resorts, without lag, we are shooting for that. FRSC "Flat Ride Construction Set" with Sequencer for flat rides like the Huss Jump that require special start up, wind down routines. Darkness by default within structures for true dark rides. a CCS "Coaster Construction Set" including not only creating your own coaster car styles and themes, but tracks and support types as well for park and coaster builders to be able to use in their final products. Alignment Manager to numerically help align strutures, 3D objects, Rides. Path Manager makes curved paths, paint it, stretch it go line to line, tug the side of the path, widen, narrow it and import your own custom path tiles as well and peeps will follow them. Fireworks, Stage Band, Stage Show, Water FX Mix Masters and that's just the start.

Okay, you got a better idea what we are shooting for and what is on the table at http://www.tpb3d.com "Theme Park Builder 3D" so you ask is when? Excellent question. 2007 will be the year of the first 6 months of you know what. The target year for birth is in 2008 and this baby will be kicking and screaming for the public to use and absolutely for free. That's our other committment to all of you. The word "FREE" means not one penny, just your time to download all this. First we will get the base and a few raw themes. The rcghq forums have many discussions and we urge other forums to start up a TPB3D participation and join us. Its a community thing and we are all in this together for the better. 3 or 4 years from now, God willing, we can all look back and be constrained by corporate entities no more. We will have taken the future into our own hands and the future is indeed grand. Have a happy new year everyone and remember that 2007 was the year we began taking back our gaming 3D amusement park platform for ourselves, friends and family and the world!

The old sebar.com domain has yielded these forums to a new domain officially here at http://www.tpb3d.net  and the main site will be at http://www.tpb3d.com

The forums are completely supporting the new game. New devs have joined the team as well as 3d modelers committed to this project once that end of it opens up.

Areas that MTTM 3d people might wanna consider will be three main areas to consider.

First there is both traditional and animated 3d models including a built-in sequencer for 3d models to add animation to them in-game.

Second there are ride pieces for both track and flat rides as the game will have a "FRCS" Flat Ride Construction Set and "CCS" Coaster Construction Set and finally a "DRCS" for other than coaster track rides.

The final item will be templates for the BG "Building Generator". You will be able to import a 3d item and attach it to a BG created structure such as a haunted mansion, in a parent-child relationship. Also if you have those files you should be able to mouswheel click an object and reverse the relationship. All attached scenery can be rotated along with rides too, in 1 degree increments on a 360 degree circle.

We are looking to have this game running on Linux, Mac and Windows platform cross platform seamlessly and also an online multiplayer function with a server client setup.

Beta is on about 24 months for a stable beta base and we already have logged many many many themes in the forums for people to contribute what they want in them. We will even list new forums for themes that users request so this will be far larger in size than what the corporates gave us, and far better too in the long run. Just remember that...

Very Happy The new game took a major step today as the sfnet approved its usage of the complete sourceforge library of programming goodies. This is a seriously major step moving forward as the devs now have the tools and lots of them to create this game. Likewise a number of 3d modelers have indicated at the tpb3d forums they are on for the project. Many old and some newer users finally found us. The main thing is to use the tpb3d forums to let the devs know what you want in the game. Founder DoctorJ has said that now is the time for what content you want in it.

A list of over 20 theme expansion packs have been posted now and growing.

The game will allow as previously mentioned importation of all 3d scenery, a flat ride construction set a coaster construction set and an integrated building generator which can also interact with imported 3d objects. A 360 degree rotational grid in 1 degree increments with an alignment manager. Multiplayer online with a game acting as a server. Will work as mentioned across platforms too, Linux BSD, Mac OSX and Windows XP. More info is posted at the new forums http://www.tpb3d.net including the sourceforge licensing approval. The project is now on big time. Get set because as I have said from day one as my motto for this...

According to the devs, yes...but bear in mind they are looking at 24 months. A lot can change in 2 years.
